About Plitvice Lakes area

The National Park Plitvice Lakes is one of the largest and oldest national parks in Croatia. Founded in 1949, the protected area extends over 296.85 square km. The Park is world-famous for its lakes arranged in cascades – a total of 16 lakes can be seen from the surface. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.

Rastoke Waterfalls , the so called “Small Lakes of Plitvice” are located in the town of Slunj, about 30 km from Plitvice Lakes. With its beautiful waterfalls, cascades and watermills it became “a must see” place for every visitor of Plitvice area.

Barac Caves, located about 20 km from Plitvice Lakes, nearby a small town Rakovica offers an amazing 60-minute-walk beneath the earth with geological and archeological findings and attractions.

The Northern Velebit National Park, located about 90 km from Plitvice lakes (direction Senj) is a national park in Croatia that covers 109 km2 of the northern section of the Velebit mountains, the largest mountain range in Croatia.

Kuterevo “The Bear Sanctuary” is located about 70 km from Plitvice lakes (direction Senj).

Paraglidinig Sky Riders Croatia is located at Bjelopolje, about 25 km from Plitvice lakes, a unique experience combining nature beauties at any time of the year.
